ARTIST bio
Jackie Soro is a Philadelphia-based artist, singer, and collaborative theater-maker based in Philadelphia (Lenapehoking).
She is deeply rooted in Philadelphia's arts community and is dedicated to creating safer spaces & wider stages for queer performers like herself.
As a performer, they build immersive, temporary worlds in the form of musically rich performances that invite audiences to laugh, sing, cry, and engage with big questions: What burdens do each of us carry, and how do we contain it all? What is community & how do we build it? How can we live thoughtfully & joyfully on a burning planet? How do we open ourselves to change?
Jackie’s solo & collaborative works are playfully irreverent and improvisatory, and have appeared on many stages including Ars Nova, LaMama ETC, FringeArts, Christchurch Neighborhood House, Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Wilma Theater, and DIY venues across Philadelphia.
Jackie holds many things, including queer & mixed-race identities; degrees in history and gender studies; a deep love for working with children; and an allergy to regular work schedules. She enjoys improvising, biking, good books, crafts, gardening, and speaking in a loud voice. Jackie is a Sagittarius with a Cancer moon and is trying her best to make art through the end times.
